Hello 6th class,

I hope you are well.

It’s difficult to believe that it is the month of June. Who would have thought back on March 12th that we’d still be at home. There’s no doubt we’ve all had different experiences but it’s safe to say it’s all been a bit of a roller coaster. I’m sure we’ve all felt the ups and downs of this time. I hope you’ve had more ups than downs! My motto during Covid 19 was ‘one day at a time’. Perhaps you or your parents had another saying that you used, if so I’d love to hear it.

As we approach the end of your primary school years, I’d like to invite you to write down your memories, not just your memories of this year but all you remember right  from your first day in Nicker NS until now. This is your homework for the next few days, but take as many days as you like. Below, I have written a few sentences to get you started. Write as much as you want, there’s no pressure, you don’t have to answer all these questions, they’re just to prompt your memory and remind you of what you might want to write down.

  • Can you remember your first day? Can you remember any particular day/days in Junior infants? Who was your teacher? How did you feel? Who did you sit beside?etc.
  • Who was your next teacher? What games did you enjoy on the yard? Can you remember your junior/Senior or first class school tour? Is there any incident which stands out for you?
  • 2nd Class – Holy Communion. Any memories? Did you sing/read?
  • 3rd and 4th – what subjects did/do like? Were you involved in any particular projects/Science Fair/School Masses/ Christmas Concerts/Drama /working in groups with Mrs. Stevens/Ms O’ Dea/Mrs. Beary.
  • 5th and 6th – masses/Concerts/Debates/Hurling/Football/science/Sean Nós/Nursing Home
  • Any particular poem/song/piece of music/dance you enjoy or any particular hobby you feel you’d like to develop more or that you might even have for life.
  • Breda/Emer/Lisa/Sinéad – don’t forget how they might have helped you on the yard, when you fell or even when you were in trouble!
  • The School Bus – I’m sure there’s lots of stories here!
  • Sports Day – soccer/Cumann namBunscoil/trials/Ms. Blackwell’s great work
  • Any unusual weather days– storm/snow/fun on the ice
  • Any incident in school which stands out in your mind? Perhaps you got away with something or avoided a tricky situation – you can tell now! Some of you might even remember your time in the community hall while the school was being renovated.
  • Any particular visitors you enjoyed listening to – Music generation/The Dog’s Trust/Food Dudes7

Also if you’ve any photos (old or new) which you’d like me to upload on the website, send them on. I look forward to hearing from you.

All the best from  Ms. Franklin
