22nd Jun 2020

Dear Parents,

As we draw close to the end of another school year I would like to draw your attention to some documents which you might find useful.

Ní Neart go cur le Chéile – There’s strength in Unity!

It’s been a most  unusual time for us all and I hope that you and the pupils of Nicker NS have coped well during the past few weeks.
In planning ahead, staff and Board of Management of Nicker NS are mindful of the importance of preparing well for September. We will  continue to keep you informed and up to date with relevant information as provided by the Department of Education and the HSE. It’s difficult to predict what school life will be like in September but suffice to say that we will doing our very best to make it a safe, healthy space to work and learn.
The school reports have been sent but the administration work continues.

I would especially like to commend all the children and their parents who really embraced remote teaching, and, learning from a distance, in the past term. It no doubt had its challenges. I would like to thank all the staff for their wonderful commitment to the children via the school website, email and through the text a parent system. We received some lovely art work and photographs of children’s projects, their written work, homework, baking, obstacle courses etc. We saw fantastic examples of homemade masks beautifully sewn together and given as a gift to family members, neighbours and friends. We heard of children who are busy doing jobs, helping their grandparents, siblings and parents. Well done to all!

Please note that the Book Scheme this year will be a little different.

We are delighted that the PA have offered to organise the rental of all text books for September. Parents will however this year, need to access their own workbooks, stationery and school uniforms.
Please come to school on Tuesday next June 23rd at 5pm to return your child’s current textbooks from this year (readers/Small World/Rothar Nua/Bun go Barr textbooks/novels/Let’s Go/Up and Running/religion books etc)

Please place your child’s books in a bag with their name on the bag. Class teachers will provide you with a workbook and stationery list which you will require to purchase all items, apart from, the text books which the PA are organising for rental.

In the interests of health and safety, textbooks which you bring back will be left for a few days before being sorted and compiled by the Parents’ Association.
We will organise a date for collection of ordered textbooks in August and on this evening you can pay for same. We will forward price via text beforehand.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday next. Please observe social distancing at the wall. If the weather is good we will collect from you at the wall. If not we ask that you come to reception only.
Children are not allowed into the school grounds on Tues, it is not necessary and in the interest of health and safety we only want one person from each family to drop off books.

Many thanks for all your support and please stay in touch via the website during the holidays. We endeavour to keep you informed and up to date with important information as appropriate

Le Meas,
K. Franklin
