Maths Games: I have included some maths games you could try with your child that support their learning on the pages outlined above. We normally would do concrete work such as this at school before doing our workbooks.
Playing Card Stories
Take a standard pack of playing cards and remove all the picture cards. Ask your child to make number stories with the remaining cards, e.g. 3+5=8. Write the + and = signs on Post-it notes or slips of paper.
Domino addition
If you have dominoes at home, ask your child to find all the dominoes that add up to different numbers 1-10
Giant number line
Practice addition on the number line in a fun way by drawing numbers on the floor with chalk/ laying paper with numbers 1-10 out on the ground. Call out an addition sum and get your child to find the answer by hopping along the giant number line.

Look at the video “ Tá capall aici” This is a short clip from the Bua na Cainte programme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FthCR7HIv2Q
Listen to the clip a few times and ask your child to repeat the sentences. After a few days of discussing and repeating the vocabulary in the video, try watching the video on mute. Prompt your child to say what pet each person has, using full sentences, as they appear on the screen.
Last week we learned how to say “I have a pet” for e.g. “Tá capall agam” (I have a horse).
This week the focus is on Tá _____ aici (She has a _____)
Tá ______ aige ( He has a ____)
capall (horse)
éan (bird)
coinín (rabbit)
iasc (fish)
cearc (hen)
luch (mouse)

Hands on Activities- Revision on Time, Months and Seasons.
Practice telling the time using the home-made clock from a few weeks ago. (Simply a clock draw on a piece of paper with two strips of paper to show the hands which can be moved around by your child).
Remember to emphasise that half past six for example will have the long hand at six and the short hand between six and seven.
Naming and ordering the months of the year
Write out the names of the months of the year on pieces of paper or cut them from an old calendar. Ask your child to put them in the right order. See if they can pick out the months of Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring also when asked.
