English Writing: Pick one of the following please and write in your copy.

  1. Write a letter to you parents persuading them to let you get a dog/cat/pet
  2. Write a letter to the County Council persuading them to do something about the litter problem in your area
  3. Write a letter to the minister for Education persuading him to ban homework for good
  4. Write a letter to the minister for Education persuading him to allow the leaving Cert to go ahead.
  5. Write a letter to the Minister persuading him to not allow the leaving cert to go ahead
  6. Write a letter to you local TD persuading him/her to build a playground in your area

You will need to do a plan first – write your title and bullet point you ideas underneath. Do this on day 1 of your writing. On day 2 write your actual letter – 2 pages.  You’ll need to be persuasive. Use some of the following phrases /words:

Firstly; It’s very obvious; We all know that/how..

Secondly; There’s no doubt; It’s difficult to imagine.. You’ll agree that…

Of course….Surely…

Finally; I’m sure you agree wholeheartedly that…

 

You’ll remember these phrases from our debates.

Divide your letter into Introduction, second paragraph, third paragraph, conclusion.

Write you address on the top right hand side of you copy. Don’t forget the date.

Begin your letter with Dear_____; or To Whom it may concern; or Dear Mr/Mrs.____

End the letter with one of the following  – I hope you consider my application; I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible; I hope you consider my proposal; I ‘m sure you’ll agree with all I’ ve said …etc..
